If I smash the natural supplement medicine before swallowing, will the treatement take effect?
I have to take some natural supplements such as vitamines, but i just can't swallow them due to a neck problem, so I smash them and use a little bit o water to diluate. What should I do?I mean I really need those, and among them are some soft gels, which i too smash before
Regardless of how you swallow it, it should work. The only tablet you should not crush or break is anything that is extended/sustained-release, examples are medicines with suffixes like XR, ER, SR. These medicines can't be broken because it destroys their ability to disperse properly. Also, if you destroy the coating on some tablets, it could lead to nausea or stomach pain, so eat a piece of bread or a snack when you do that. Read all of the labeling; ask your pharmacist if you need information.
