Why do horses not catch our colds/flu/viruses?
I know this sounds like weird question but someone asked me once if her horse could catch her cold. Of course I said no. What I'm looking for is the technical reason why they don't. I mean there are some things that horses can get that we also are susceptible too (like WNV), and horses get sick but still they don't get our flu bugs or colds so I was hoping some vet out there would give me the technical reason so I can sound really smart next time someone asks, LOL...
It's because their body temperature is several degrees different from ours. Therefore, most germs that can survive in our bodies cannot survive in their bodies and vice versa.
