What if an acupuncture needle is left in?

Today I received acupuncture for the first time. About two hours after my treatment was over, I had a stinging sensation behind my ear. I felt an acupuncture needle behind my ear and in a moment of panic I pulled it out. Now my earl canal seems like it is swollen. Also, the place where the needle was has a small and painful bump.
I am worried that something might be wrong with my ear.

Forgotten needles should not happen, but on rare occasions they do occur. I'm always hyper-aware of the possibility and to date have not had a patient leave the treatment room with a needle inserted.

You should contact the acupuncturist's office and explain what has happened. The side effects of a needle being left in are generally limited to bruising, swelling, and sensitivity at the site of insertion. It is highly likely that there is a bruise/swelling from the needle.

If the problem does persist or worsens you should absolutely be seen at your primary care physician's, or the E.R.
